Buying Property in Bulgaria
Bulgaria is wonderful place with amazing scenery and a wide variety of climate. Situated on the Balkan Peninsula, in Eastern Europe. It borders Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, the Black Sea to the east, Greece and Turkey to the south and Romania to the north. Bulgaria also shares a sea border with Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia. The capital is Sofia.

- Blagoevgrad - Located in the south west corner of Bulgaria and covering an area of over 600 km2. The city of Blagoevgrad and 25 adjacent villages are situated in the region. The major city in the region is Blagoevgrad being one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Southwest Bulgaria. The main international routes connecting Bulgaria with the Republic of Macedonia and Greece pass through it. The region of Blagoevgrad includes parts of three of the biggest Bulgarian mountains - Rila, Pirin and the Rhodopes and is well known under the name of Pirin region. There is easy access to the Bulgarian capital of Sofia from Blagoevgrad, being only 100km north.
The Blagoevgrad area is part of the region, known as "Pirin" which is characterized by its unique geographic location, physical beauty of the surrounding mountains, and rich flora and fauna. Three mountain ranges are in the area, the Rila, Pirin and Rhodopes. Picturesque lakes and roaring rivers provide the region with pure, fresh spring water. The names of the local rivers Bistritsa, Glazene, Struma and Mesta echo in the songs and the folklore of the region. The Blagoevgrad municipality has an ample supply of pure mineral water, river systems and lush mountain forests. The landscape is varied and beautiful. The physical characteristics combine to make Blagoevgrad the largest and most important town in southwestern Bulgaria. It is an important cultural, administrative, and industrial center for the entire southwestern part of the country.
- Burgas - Physically the largest province, Burgas Province is located in the south east of Bulgaria bordering the Black Sea. It contains the countries largest and most popular holiday resort Sunny Beach situated on the Black Sea coast. Sunny Beach offers a Mediterranean climate which attracts British, German, Russian and Scandinavian tourists among others. - Dobrich - The town of Dobrich is situated 50km north of Varna and approximately 380 km from the capital Sofia. Dobrich is an important economic, administative and cultural centre in the northeast of the country.
- Gabrovo - Gabrovo is situated in central northern Bulgaria, along the River Yantra at the foot of the central Balkan Mountains. Gabrovo is approximately 220Km north east of the capital city Sofia.
- Haskovo - is a province in southern Bulgaria. Greece and Turkey neighbour the province to the southeast. It has a territory of over 5,500 km and population of approximately 280,000. It comprises parts of the Thracian valley along the river Maritsa (Evros, Meriç). The main city in the province is Haskovo. Two key transcontinental roads cross the territory of Haskovo region. The first road connects West and Central Europe with Istanbul and Asia, the second one – North Europe with Mediterranean. The distance from Haskovo to the Greek and Turkish border is about 60 km., to Sofia – 230 km., and the entire road network is 1 882 km. Haskovo region is characterized with favorable mild climate, beautiful clear nature and unique flora and fauna. The relief is varied, the territory of the region includes parts of the Upper-Thracian lowland, as well as East Rhodope and Sakar mountain.
- Kardzhali - The town of Kardzhali is in the heart of the province of Kardzhali. The area is divided into 8 territories (Kardzhali, Ardino, Chernoochene, Dzhebel, Kirkovo, Krumovgrad, Momchilgrad) with 7 towns and 522 villages. The biggest town is Kardzhali with a population of over 50,000 people. An international road leads through the town of Kardzhali from Rousse to Komotiny, Greece. There is transportation routes providing easy access to Sofia in the west approximately 290 km away, to Bourgas and Varna in the east by the Black sea and to Rouse at the Romanian Border in the north by railway. The Greek Port, Alexandrupolis, in the south just 120 km away.
- Kyustendil - The Region of Kyustendil is situated in the South-Western part of Bulgaria and extends across an area of over 3000 km. The province has a population of more than 170 000. Bordering the Regions of Sofia, Pernik and Blagoevgrad, and the countries of the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia to the west. The commercial, administrative and cultural center of the Region is Kyustendil. The landscape in the region is diverse with mountains, valleys and canyons. The northern and western parts of the territory form the so-called "Kyustendilsko kraishte" (Kyustendil Cornerland), and include parts of the cross-border Milevska, Chudinska, Zemenska and - to the east - Konyavska mountains. To the south, the Kyustendilsko kraishte reaches as far as the valleys of the Dragovishtitsa and Bistritsa rivers, as well as the Lisets mountain. The southern part of the region includes massifs of the Osogovo, Vlahina and North-Western Rila mountains, including the Kamenitsa, Kyustendil and Dupnitsa lowerlands.
The climate is trans-continental, but at higher altitudes it is mountainous. The main drainage river is the Struma whose subsidiaries are the Treklyanska, Dragovishtitsa, Bistritsa, Slokoshtitsa, Novoselska, Dzherman and Rila rivers. Near the village of Kamenichka Skakavitsa, the Golemi dol river forms a 70-meter-high waterfall. The Dyakovo, Bersin, Drenov dol and Bagrentsi artificial lakes (dams) are mainly used for irrigation purposes. Soil composition is most favorable for the traditionally-developed fruit-growing.
The Region of Kyustendil includes 9 municipalities: Kyustendil, Dupnitsa, Bobov dol, Sapareva banya, Rila, Kocherinovo, Nevestino, Boboshevo, Treklyano. Kyustendil is a contemporary Bulgarian administrative center, whose future is mostly seen in the development of cultural tourism, and modern rehabilitation resort centers by the hot mineral water springs.
Kyustendil, the Spa town in the province has about 20 banks, 50 restaurants, 3 large hotels, a railway station and bus station. The Strimon Spa Club Hotel is new and has 5 stars. It offers interesting spa experiences including a bath for two people in milk! There are about 200 shops and a market which sells local produce. There are 3 swimming pools locally. The countyside around is like a national park. The town is 1795 feet above sea level. The climate is continental with snow in winter (local skiing is available just above the town) and hot summers. When it rains it is often tropical with a heavy downpour of rain, then sun to follow. It is on a par with Chicago and Andorra. Kyustendil is just over one hours drive from Sofia airport and close to the Macedonian border. Major skiing is an hour and a half away.
- Lovech - The region of Lovech is bordered by: Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv regions. Two main transport routes pass through the territory of the region- going to Sofia, Sevlievo, Veliko Tarnovo Shumen and Botevgrad, Koritna and Byala. Both connect the region of Lovech with the neighboring and the other regions and with the capital city. The city of Lovech is the center of an administrative region. It is situated along the two banks of the Osam river. Founded as a Bulgarian fortress in the Middle Ages over the ruins of a Roman road station. Houses of Ranaissance architecture have been preserved in the ancient part of the town, called Varosha. On the place where there was a covered bridge built by Kolyo Ficheto in 1874, nowadays there is a covered iron-concrete bridge with shops along it.
